It was another frantic and fantastic weekend of Premier League action and once again it brought it’s fair share of superb strikes and glorious goals.
These are the top 5 goals from the latest round of the Premier League:
5. Kevin Nolan – West Ham vs Sunderland
West Ham talisman and captain Kevin Nolan delivered again for the Hammers on Saturday as he struck a late equaliser against Sunderland to rescue a point. It was another well taken goal from Nolan who now has three already this season and he shows no sign of stopping. As the home side piled forward in the final few minutes, Nolan found space in the box as the ball was lobbed into his path and he showed great agility and technique to hit the ball past the helpless Simon Mignolet.
4. Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton vs Aston Villa
Southampton grabbed their first win and points since their return to the Premier League on Saturday as they marched to victory in style with a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa. The saints played some great attacking football throughout the match and full back Nathaniel Clyne scored a terrific second for the home side. Clyne rounded off a fantastic move as he ghosted in behind the Villa back four and recieved a delightful ball from Gaston Ramirez over the top of the defence, before nudging the ball through the keepers legs. It was a superb bit of football and emphasised the silky style of football Southampton are trying to bring to the Premier League.
3. Steven Gerrard – Liverpool vs Manchester United
Sunday’s clash between Liverpool and Manchester was momentous and memorable for all sorts of reasons but it will also be remembered for another brilliant goal from Gerrard. The Liverpool captain once again showed his world class ability and passion as he gave the reds the lead just after half time with a brilliantly taken goal. As the ball was lumped back into the area, Gerrard pulled away from his marker, controlled the ball on his chest before swinging a left foot volley into the bottom corner. It was another fantastic strike and a poignant one also as Gerrard pointed to the skies in his celebration, gesturing a tribute to his cousin who was one of the 96 that lost their lives at Hillsborough.
2. Rafael Da Silva – Liverpool vs Manchester United
Manchester United’s Brazillian full back is often more regarded for his attacking prowess rather than his defensive capabilities and on Sunday he showed a great eye for goal as well. Rafael leveled the scores in the match early in the second half as he found the ball at his feet in the box and was able to curl a shot into the far corner with his left foot. It was a brilliant finish and once again showed Rafael’s attacking threat as he got his team back into the game.
1. Demba Ba – Newcastle vs Norwich
The pick of the weekends goals for it’s simplicity and beauty rather than amazing power and pace. It was the only goal of the game between Newcastle and Norwich and it was worthy of winning the game. Hatem Ben Arfa was the real star of the goal as he picked up the ball in his own half, turned, jinked past a Norwich player and played a beautiful defence splitting pass into the path of Demba Ba.
The pass eliminated all of Norwich’s defence and put Ba through on goal and the Newcastle forward took his chance wonderfully. Taking in the ball with a brilliant first touch he then calmly and seamlessly stroked the ball past the keeper and gave Newcastle the three points. It was a brilliant goal and the best net bulger from this weekends action. CLICKY
