Arsenal have experienced a serious dip in form recently and their shambolic defensive state is at the root of their sorrows. The Gunners have conceded 36 goals in the Premier League alone, the second most among the top-half clubs.
Injury crisis, defensive mistakes and lack of chemistry among their defenders have plagued their results. A few defensive reinforcements are necessary to help them regain the title-challenging ability. Few would doubt the club’s attacking quality and Emery is certainly a tactician of note, though the constant defensive frailty severely undermines them.
With that in mind, here are three defensive options they can ponder upon.
A hard-tackling defensive general, Manolas has all the traits to solidify Arsenal’s defence.
A leader at the back, Manolas is built for the Premier League, possession impressive heading, physical prowess along with commendable pace.
The Roma defender has reportedly been on their radar for long and the Gunners should make the move to sign Manolas to bring stability into their shaky defence next season.
The RB Leipzig youngster is having a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, having kept six clean-sheets and impressed with his composed work.
At 19 years of age, Konate’s already 6’4 and a tough-tackling, intelligent defender. Many clubs, including Arsenal, are said to be chasing him, but the Gunners should try to secure this world-class young talent who can keep them defensively safe in the long-term.
Chilwell’s had a solid season for Leicester City so far. He’s been impressive going forward, delivering two assists so far and creating many chances, while being stable defensively. With a 56% tackling success, 129 recoveries, 21 interceptions and seven clean-sheets so far, Chilwell has been commendable and can be the answer to Arsenal’s left-back issues.
He’s going to be a big player in the future and, having seen how important full-backs are to top teams these days, trying to sign him before someone else does would be a good move.
