Liverpool more or less booked their place in the Champions League final this week with a stunning display of attacking football at Anfield, smashing five past a hapless Roma side to run out 5-2 winners.
The two late goals from Roma put a dent in an otherwise perfect showing from the Reds, and once again, it highlighted some of the defensive frailties which have at times threatened to derail Liverpool’s entire season.
Our landlord was pleased to see manager Jurgen Klopp bring in powerhouse defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has proved to be an excellent signing, but he still feels the club could do with adding one more world class central defender to the ranks to ensure they continue to challenge.
There are plenty of top class defenders in and around Europe and beyond, and we in the Tavern think Liverpool have the drawing power to be able to attract at least one of these players.
