Manchester United succumbed to another miserable result as Liverpool came out 3-1 winners in the big Sunday afternoon game at Anfield.
The Red Devils were outdone all over the pitch in the main, although it took two late goals from Xherdan Shaqiri to seal the win for the home side, who go back to the top of the Premier League following a win over their biggest rivals.
For United though, it’s back to the drawing board and more misery for manager Jose Mourinho, who surely now is on the brink after a miserable season so far for the Old Trafford club.
Mourinho looks to have lost the desire and buy in from his squad, and that was on display today in abundance as plenty of the United players failed to turn in any sort of performance worthy of a club the size of Manchester United.
There is off course the odd shining light for United, with the likes of Rashford and Martial performing admirably at times, but for Mourinho, it’s looking more and more like the end if nigh for the Portuguese manager.
Mourinho is almost appearing behind the times in some aspects of his management. The likes of Liverpool, Man City, and Chelsea, all seem tactically light years ahead of the Manchester club, and it’s baffling to see how someone who has been so successful seems to have fallen from grace.
United need to act, and need to act now. There is little to no chance of winning the title, while the top four is even looking a complete miracle job if they pull that one off too.
It’s time to go in my eyes, and United, and Mourinho, can all move on from what has been a long drawn out and at times, boring, saga at Old Trafford.
