Time for Wenger to toughen up and make this huge Arsenal call

An argument has just broken out in the Football Transfer Tavern over how Arsenal should deal with their Alexis Sanchez problem.

The Chilean, who has just one year to run on his current deal at The Emirates has refused to commit to signing a new contract with the club.

After his indiscretions and bad temper towards the end of last season and with several teams circling the forward, some believe it would be best to cash in on Sanchez and simply move on.

Of course, the problem lies with the fact that that Sanchez netted a staggering 30 times in 50 appearances for the Gunners last term. Arsenal are subsequently reluctant to sell him and strengthen a Premier League rival.

Bayern Munich were suggested to be keen on the 28 year-old, though the German giants have seemingly bailed after securing the signing of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

Arsenal have just signed Alexandre Lacazette and are in hot pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. Mesut Ozil is in behind, while new signing Sead Kolasinac has established himself as an assist machine in Germany. If Sanchez does remain a Gunner, the Arsenal forward line is enough to make a grown man drool.

Sanchez has not travelled with the Arsenal squad for their tour of Australia

Understandably so, some Gooners are worried that maintaining Sanchez means the striker could end up at a domestic rival 12 months later.

But a year is a long time in football and who knows how Arsenal will compete this season with the striker in their side.

But It’s time for Wenger to get tough. If he keeps hold of El Nino Maravilla, this Arsenal side could challenge on all fronts this season, Sanchez has a contract to stick to and it’s Wenger’s job to ensure that happens.
