Newcastle United continue to make steady progress this season under Rafa Benitez, and despite the Spaniard not getting all the players he wanted in the summer, the Magpies are making a decent fist of things back in the top flight.
The Toon Army have been happy enough with the progress this season, and their fans who have been coming in the Tavern this season have informed our landlord that surviving relegation remains the ultimate aim, something they are firmly on course for.
However, to ensure survival, our landlord thinks the club might well need to add one or two more new faces, as well as moving a few people on in January.
One player he thinks should be moved on after a couple of failed seasons with the club is big striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who despite appearing to have all the attributes to be a top striker, has so failed to hit the heights he might have expected to hit following his move to England.
With Benitez preferring Joselu and Dwight Gayle as his forward options, the Magpies could well be wise to look to shift Mitrovic on while he can still command a decent fee, and there will no doubt be plenty of clubs in Europe willing to take a chance on the big striker.
The Toony Army have at times being massively supportive of Mitrovic, but the goals have simply not come, and his time at St James’ Park could well be up if Benitez has his way in January.
