After a summer of fairly minor transfer activity, Newcastle seem to be going into the season with plenty to be worried about.

Following the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Mike Ashley has strengthened up front and managed to bring in Japan international, Yoshinori Muto. He has also pulled off a potential steal in Fabian Schar but aside from those two deals, the Newcastle owner has only brought in players to cover the bare bones of the squad rather than heavily reinvesting.

Durbavka and Kenedy are returning again while Ki is filling the gap left by Mikel Merino. Benitez spoke after last night's loss to Braga and it was pretty damning. The Spaniard admitted that he was worried about the club's season and that more players needed to come in.

One position that Benitez has been desperate to improve on, is at left-back and laterly centre-back.

He currently has Paul Dummet and Achraf Lazaar as his potential fullback starters but according to Sky Sports reporter, Keith Downie, Benitez wants to bring in PSG's versatile youngster, Stanley N'Soki.

The Breakdown

Newcastle need to upgrade at left-back, and because of that they have been linked with moves for Joe Bryan and Argentina left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

While N'Soki is primarily a central defender, the youngster can also play as left-back. With only one year left on his deal, Newcastle might be able to land the youngster in a cut-price deal.

Someone of his versatility could be a real asset at the club and could go someway in lifting Benitez's mood.
