Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering who the next breakthrough youngster is going to be. With little going on across the arrivals front now after the arrival of Ross Barkley, the Blues in our bar are eager to discuss the next generation.
Chelsea have had a recent history of loaning many of their youth academy players out in order to gain first-team experience in the lower leagues and many keep in that cycle until a permanent move away from the club comes along. While it’s not always a popular strategy, it sure is a money maker.
Our regulars notice that the odd one here and there, actually come back from a loan and break into the first team, like Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen. Although the percentage for that happening is fairly low at Stamford Bridge, much to the dismay of our west London locals.
Antonio Conte, in this window, should make the decision to end a couple of the youngsters Chelsea careers now before they become another player stuck in a rut.
