Toby Alderweireld not thinking about Tottenham deal

Toby Alderweireld not thinking about Tottenham deal

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced into selling one of their stars sooner rather than later after some negative news starts to emerge.

According to a report by The Daily Mirror, Toby Alderweireld had admitted that he is not thinking about signing a new contract to remain in north London.

It is believed that he and Mauricio Pochettino had a falling out, however, things had appeared to be fine, until his latest comments about his future, which could increase the tension between the pair.

When asked about his present situation, Alderweireld said: “Honestly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment.

“I feel good and I’m playing so I’m happy. We’ll see what happens.”

The Belgium international was expected to leave the club in the summer, with a number of potential suitors thought to have been interested in him, however, he remained and has seen his first-team football restored.

Alderweireld contract expires in the summer, and despite Tottenham having an option to extend it for a further year, it will trigger a £25million release clause that clubs could look to exploit.

The Verdict:

Tottenham will have become frustrated with the news that Alderweireld is not thinking about extending his contract just yet, however, that is fairly normal for players at the moment.

Many do not like to think about their deals when they are in the middle of the campaign and like to put it to one side before getting things done.

However, with the situation that Spurs find themselves in regards to the Belgian enforcer, they may just have to bite the bullet on triggering the extension and getting £25million for him, rather than letting him go on a free in the summer.
