Tottenham returned to Premier League action yesterday afternoon, dispatching Newcastle 2-1 in Sky Sports’ early kick-off at St James Park. The supporters would have been pleased with the starting eleven as a number of their World Cup stars were involved. However, after the game Toby Alderweireld, who was an unused substitute, took to Twitter with a message for the fans.

Toby Alderweireld played very little football last season but his reputation still proceeds him and the fans would be in dreamland if the Belgian defender was to sign a new deal with the club and get back in the starting eleven alongside his countryman, Jan Vertonghen. The pair have played together at Ajax, Tottenham and for Belgium and if they can settle in a back three alongside Davinson Sanchez then they’ll be in a great position to challenge at the top.
Unfortunately, most supporters are resigned to the fact that they probably won’t get the fairytale ending that they wanted with Alederweireld and whilst he’s still a Tottenham player after Thursday’s deadline, he’s likely to leave the club in the future. Football’s a strange game, though, and it’s not out of the equation for the big Belgian to see the light and sign a new contract in N17 to stay with Mauricio Pochettino and co, that’s the dream for Spurs fans anyway.

Confidence. Just sign the ting and we can finally move on to better things, Toby.

Just from the handful tweets above, it’s clear that the supporters want to see Alderweireld back in the starting line up and will be delighted if he can resolve his contract issues with the club.
