Napoli vs. Liverpool
Liverpool travel to one of the most passionate (and violent) footballing cities in the world tonight as leaders of group K. Two Liverpool fans have already been stabbed in Naples last night. Their opponents are getting back to being a top side in Italy after years in the lower leagues and bankruptcy.
Roy Hodgson has left Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres out of his squad tonight for a game deemed more important at the weekend against Blackburn. Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger also miss out through injury and illness respectively. Midfielder Christian Poulsen should be fit to return after missing the defeat to Everton.
Napoli has some tricky players to handle. Strikers Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi will be a handful and midfielder Marek Hamsik will have to be watched closely. Former Liverpool player Andrea Dossena is expected to start against his old side.
Manchester City vs. Lech Poznan
City is without a number of players for a game which should be a routine victory. Defender’s Kolo Toure (hamstring) and Aleksandar Kolarov (ankle) are both out. Jo is also sidelined with an ankle problem while Mario Balotelli (knee) is a long term absence.
Carlos Tevez was expected to be rested but with a number of strikers missing he could play. It is likely to be him or Emmanuel Adebayor up front on their own.
Their opponents are actually top of the group, though their form has been erratic so far this season. They top the group after drawing with Juventus and beating Salzburg, but lie third from bottom of their domestic league.
