France’s best kept secret, Kevin Gameiro is being chased by an array of European clubs, including Newcastle United, Villarreal, Valencia and Paris Saint Germain. The deadly Lorient Striker has been in dazzling form finding the back of the net on 21 occasions in the league this season.
Gameiro, 24, has shown interest in a move to Spanish outfit Valencia, with the allure of Champions league football providing a massive incentive for the French international.
With Newcastle keen to fill the void left by Andy Carroll’s mega money move to Liverpool in January. The Magpies have upped their bid to £10million in attempt to ward off interest from Valencia.
The tricky striker has one year left to run on his current contract, meaning the French side may have to cash in on their star man this summer, rather than run the risk of letting him go on a free in a years time. Lorient president Frey is determined to convince Gameiro to stay, speaking to L’Equipe, Feray said ‘We’ve made considerable efforts – so far unsuccessfully – to try to extend his contract. I have not given up. Nothing is ruled out.’
If Newcastle are to successfully poach the in demand forward from under the noses of some of Europe’s more glamorous clubs, they may have to part with more of the Carroll transfer windfall than first thought.
