Top 5 ‘Free’s’ Arsene Wenger Should Look At This Summer

With clubs looking to ‘trim the fat’ many players will find themselves without a club in the summer of 2012. Players agents from most European teams will be working overtime during the summer months to find their clients the best possible deal.

Surely a potential move to Arsenal who are looking increasingly like securing Champions League football would have any player foaming at the mouth. Well here is 5 of the top players who could Arsenal could look at to perhaps mount a title challenge next season.

 Junior Hoilett, Blackburn РLM/LW

The 21-year-old Canadian born winger scored yet another wonderful goal to help struggling Blackburn beat Sunderland on Tuesday. On numerous occasions this season Hoilett has shown the pace, tricky and finishing of a player capable of playing at the top level. Following Arshavin’s loan move to Zenit and what will surely be his permanent departure in the summer Arsene Wenger will be looking for a player of similar mould and Hoilett may just be the answer. With Hoilett, Walcott and Chamberlain fighting for the wing positions this would allow Wenger to move Gervinho to a more central role thereby lifting some of the overwhelming reliance on Robin Van Persie.

Hugo Rodallega, Wigan – ST

With a move to North London rival Tottenham falling through in January, Rodallega still looks a certainty to leave Wigan in the summer and this gives Wenger the chance to pounce. Rodallega has performed well since his arrival in England and will offer much to an Arsenal attack which relies on Van Persie and him alone.

Lamine Gassama, Lorient  РRB/LB

Although spending most of his time at right back, Gassama is equally adept at playing left back which is a position Arsenal have struggled with since the departure of Clichy. The 22-year-old French man is well known for his pace and attacking ability from full back positions, a desirable trait amongst Arsenal defenders. At such a young age and with still much developing to do Wenger is certainly the man to get the best out the youngster and who knows they may just find another Cole or Clichy.

Rene Adler, Levekusen – GK

The 27-year-old German international would certainly provide better cover for the ever improving Szczesny. Making over 130 appearances for Levekusen makes him a vastly experienced goalkeeper despite being considered young for a position in which some are still performing at the highest level well into their 30’s. I think everyone will agree that for a free transfer Arsenal fans would rather see Adler between the sticks than Almunia or Fabianski.

Solomon Kalou, Chelsea – Forward

Kalou is capable at playing anywhere across a front three which makes him a very useful asset to any club. The Ivorian has always struggled to hold down a first team place at Chelsea but has always performed well of the bench. Still only 26-years-old Kalou would be a good asset for Wenger and would provide good competition for Walcott and Chamberlain.

Signing such players would not only improve Arsenal’s starting 11 but also their substitutes bench which is an aspect Arsenal’s rival always seem to outweigh the Gunners on.

An example of Arsenal’s starting line-up and substitutes for next season could be:

Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gassama. Song, Wilshere, Arteta. Walcott, V.Persie, Hoilett.

Subs – Adler, Rodallega, Kalou, Chamberlain, Ramsey, Gervinho, Mertesacker.
