You have to wonder at times if it is worth Chelsea having a youth academy at all after the club spend millions on bringing the best ready-made talent from across Europe after they have developed in other parishes.
Chelsea have recruited a whole host of players under the age of 23 including Oscar, Eden Hazard, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kevin De Bruyne, Thorgen Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Victor Moses. All have been signed at high cost to the club in the last year and that could make it even harder for the current Chelsea youngsters to make the breakthrough at Stamford Bridge.
There is no doubt that it is going to be hard to make a mark at Chelsea for any youth team player and after the failures of Gael Kakuta, Jeffrey Bruma and Josh McEachran to make an impression, it does seem like a difficult task.
However here in the Football Transfer Tavern, we still hold out hope that one of the current set up will be good enough to make the first team and as such we have asked Chelsea supporters gathered around the bar to come up with a list of five players who could be the next big thing at the Bridge.
Click on Stamford Bridge to reveal the top five wonderkids who could be set to emerge at Chelsea in the next few years.
