Chelsea will be looking to regain their Premier League title when the new campaign rolls around the pressure is on manager Antonio Conte to bring the title back to Stamford Bridge.
Much to the delight of the Blues fans lining the bar here in the pub, the Italian manager had a superb first season in-charge at the Bridge and has been well accepted by Chelsea fans down in London.
But now, he needs to continue adding to his squad and using his players in the right way to ensure his team are back up towards the top of the Premier League table this time too.
And there’s one man that looks like he could be heading to the Bridge over the coming weeks and that’s Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch centre-back has been hotly linked with a move to Liverpool this summer but with no move yet to materialise, it now seems that Chelsea are keen on making a move.
And it’s a transfer that might be coming to fruition, according to Sky Sports news presenter Jim White.
The popular TV journalist confirmed the news on his Twitter account this morning and also noted that Conte remains a very big fan of Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
Do Chelsea need another centre-half? Well, in short, probably yes.
With John Terry leaving to join Aston Villa this summer, Chelsea need a couple more recruits to make up the numbers and van Dijk would be a superb addition to the team.
Strong, versatile and a real leader, he’d add real quality to Conte’s ranks.
