Top journalist: It is time for Chelsea to secure a transfer for this major player

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready for Diego Costa to leave the club…

The Spaniard has been excellent during his tenure, but recent poor form combined with reckless behaviour on the field have really disappointed the fans in the pub.

This is a sentiment that Evening Standard journalist Simon Johnson agrees with, with the writer recently stating that it might be time for the Blues to move on from the Spaniard. He said: “If this is Costa’s final game at Stamford Bridge, it’s fitting that it was marked with an unnecessary yellow card” before describing him as an “unpredictable character for his managers to deal with”.

Under the headline “Time for Chelsea to move on from Diego Costa“, Johnson spends a lot of time discussing the Spaniard, and it is very hard for our landlord to disagree.

Costa’s behaviour on the field has been poor, but that can be looked past when the Spaniard is on form. However, in recent months, the striker has looked uninterested and very poor. Far away from his usual, lethal self, Costa has been lazy on the field – and that has been reflected by his recent goalscoring record.

Of course, selling a player that can score that often will be a difficult situation to recover from, but at present, it will be difficult for Antonio Conte to justify holding on to the Spaniard if a big offer comes his way.

In fact, our landlord thinks that it might be time for Michy Batshuayi to be given a chance. The Belgian has done so well in recent weeks, and whilst he is clearly not the finished article – his recent goal threat has been astounding. Conte cannot ignore him.
