Things are beginning to look very good for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
Despite a poor start to the season, a win against Tottenham on Sunday has left fans feeling very optimistic indeed. The fight, hunger and desire shown by Antonio Conte’s players gave rise to a real sense of hope at Stamford Bridge, and the three points will undoubtedly be seen as crucial when the title race begins to heat up.
Indeed, the significance of the win cannot be underestimated – as Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard suggests. A frequent reporter on the Blues, Johnson has had his say on the game, and he did not shy away from highlighting just how important it was for Antonio Conte.
Johnson said: “Make no mistake about it, this is a massive result for Conte and his players that will completely lift the mood in the camp. Had they suffered another setback here, the talk of a Chelsea crisis and Conte’s job being under threat would have grown even louder over the next few days”.
Continuing, he discussed: “Instead, the self-belief will return in abundance, plus a message has been sent loud and clear that they won’t give up their title without a fight.
Johnson is certainly not wrong here, as Chelsea are very much still in the race. Two defeats out of two could have seen panic at Stamford Bridge, but now the Blues are keeping chase with some of the Premier League’s biggest sides – and that is very important even at this early stage.
The game was a battle, and Chelsea weren’t at their best, but they still managed to get a win. That’s the mark of champions.
It’s going to be a tough season for Chelsea, but the spirit and fight shown on Sunday will stand them in good stead.
