Top ten Chelsea transfer misfits

Khalid BoulahrouzEver since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich brought Chelsea from Ken Bates in 2003 his main aim was to collect the Champions League trophy while producing the finest European team that money can buy. This goal was, of course, famously achieved last season after Chelsea won the Champions League in dramatic circumstances.

But in order to achieve Roman’s lavish dream, millions of pounds worth of transfer fees have been splurged out and a conveyor belt of footballing talent from across the globe has been brought to the club with varying degrees of success.

It’s not too surprising as for every polished gem, every team makes an absolutely inexplicable piece of recruitment; signings that will have left Chelsea supporters wondering what the then manager or owner ever saw to bring the player into the West London club.

Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we have spent the afternoon discussing these Chelsea players who just didn’t fit in with the club. Those former players who arrived at the club with impressive reputations but never fulfilled their full potential or large transfer fee leaving Chelsea fans having repetitive nightmares about their time at Stamford Bridge.
