Spanish national coach Vicente Del Bosque has taken a swipe at Fernando Torres’ form for Chelsea by claiming he couldn’t select him because he isn’t playing well enough.
The £50m Chelsea man made a substitute appearance against Chile in a friendly last week but was dropped from the squad that played Liechtenstein in a European Championship qualifier on Tuesday.
Del Bosque said:
“He is an important player but the people selected for the national team are those who do well for their clubs, not the other way round.”
Torres has started in each of Chelsea’s opening three Premier League matches but has yet to add to his solitary strike for the Blues.
