Kieran Trippier was back yesterday, and back to his brilliant best, after missing out in recent weeks through injury. However, it was like he’d never been gone as the Englishman stepped up against his former side and delivered in Spurs’ narrow 1-0 win.

Trippier will have been delighted to make his return to first-team action, and to do so with a win will also have meant a lot to the player. At times this season the fans have accused the ex-Burnley man of failing to reach the levels that they all know he can, especially after his stellar World Cup displays over the summer, but that certainly wasn’t the case yesterday.
It was Trippier’s long ball up field that found the head of Fernando Llorente before being flicked on to Harry Kane to lay off for Christian Eriksen’s winner. Yes, that’s a round-about way of celebrating the right-back, but he always did what was necessary of him, and when the game needed a long ball punted up towards Llorente, Trips was on-hand to deliver it.
