Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone could be one of several players departing White Hart Lane during the summer transfer window with the London Evening Standard reporting that he is a £5 million target for Paolo Di Canio’s Sunderland.
After it was revealed yesterday that Spurs have all but signed Brazilian star Paulinho from Corinthians in a £17 million deal, the London-based newspaper suggests that Tottenham are now willing to offload Huddlestone who will have fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Huddlestone, 26, who signed for Spurs from Derby County for £2.5 million nearly eight years ago, only made 11 starts in the Premier League last term and was close to joining Stoke City in January before a possible deal collapsed.
Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that the midfielder could leave as he seeks more playing time and that has yielded interest from the Black Cats.
Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio is keen to bring the defensive midfielder to the Stadium of Light during the summer transfer window although personal terms could be a sticking point in any possible transfer. Premier League new boys Hull City are also thought to be interested in Huddlestone’s signature.
Will Sunderland manage to snap up the signing of Huddlestone this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
