We are having a chat in the Football Transfer Tavern about perfect combinations and there were shout-outs for ‘vodka and coke’, ‘lemon and lime’ and then Darren Lewis, of the Daily Mirror, shouted out ‘Defoe and Redknapp’.
Anyway, once Darren elaborated, he made it clear that Harry Redknapp was attempting to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe.
If successful in his pursuit of the England international, this would be the fourth time Harry would have worked with Defoe following previous spells at West Ham United, Portsmouth and Spurs.
Tottenham fans have crowded round Darren now and things are getting a bit over the top (I’m pretty sure I heard someone say “It’s okay we have Harry Kane”).
Luckily, before Spurs’ fans thoughts drift back to losing Gareth Bale and Harry Kane leading the line, it is pointed out to them, by a Gooner nonetheless, that they’re signing Valencia’s Roberto Soldado and with that the Tottenham fans leave the tavern in an upbeat mood.
QPR fans aren’t too impressed with the Defoe news and relocate to the pool table with Darren who, I overheard telling them that Defoe still has two years left on his £65,000-a-week contract.
Honestly, you think Tony Fernandes would settle up his bar tab when you consider the money QPR continue to spend.
