There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Metro that Real Madrid are set to make a huge bid for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
The Spanish giants have been linked with the Spurs midfielder all summer long and now it seems Florentino Perez is finally set to push even harder to land his man.
After seeing arch-rivals Barcelona land Neymar this summer and especially when coupled with the Brazilian’s performance in the Confederations Cup, there were more than a couple of worried faces at the Bernabeu.
Now however, in a move that would smash the world record fee for a transfer, Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to sanction a bid of £85 million for the Welshman.
Most of us in the tavern and indeed in North London have been preparing for this for some time and it is certainly a case of when and not if, and even Andre Villas-Boas himself has been making contingency plans should his star man decide to leave – the club have their eye on Valencia forward Roberto Soldado and are prepared to bid around £20 million to lure the Spanish international to White Hart Lane.
Bale may have recently spoken out about his love for Andre Villas-Boas, yet such a huge offer from the Spanish giants may well be too much for both Bale himself and Daniel Levy to turn down.
Will Tottenham simply say ‘no’ again to Real Madrid’s advances? Let us know your thoughts below.
