The majority of our Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t heard of him but the Coventry Telegraph reckons that Spurs are leading Manchester United in the race to land Coventry City starlet James Maddison.
Young Maddison, aged 18, only signed a new deal at the Ricoh Arena in November last year but this hasn’t put off Spurs who would be looking to add the Sky Blues starlet to their academy ranks before hopefully going on to feature for their first team.
Attacking midfielder Maddison has appeared 12 times for Steven Pressley’s side in all competitions this term and will hope to emulate former Sky Blues academy products such as Gael Bigirimana, Cyrus Christie and Callum Wilson who have gone on to impress at pastures new in recent seasons.
The young starlet was hoping to perform against Manchester United for Coventry’s Under-18 side yesterday evening but was unfortunately ruled out with an injury that prevented him starring in front of Red Devils coaches watching on.
Speaking about Maddison’s future prospects, Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley previously noted: “This boy is going to be a star – I’ve got no doubts about that.”
Tottenham fans. What do you make of Spurs’ academy system at present? Which star could emulate Harry Kane and emerge in the first team? Perhaps Joshua Onomah, Dominic Ball, or Harry Winks? Let us know your thoughts below.
