Both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are keeping tabs on last season’s German Young Player of the Year Peniel Mlapa. Mlapa, nineteen, was voted the best young German last season after scoring six goals in twenty three games for 1860 Munich.
The Togolese born German was snapped up by 1899 Hoffenheim for this season, having previously been linked to the Toffee’s, and has scored one goal in two league games so far. He has made a number of appearances for the German under nineteen team and has played once for the under twenty one side. The young forward was called up by Togo for a World Cup qualifier with Gabon in November 2009 but rejected the offer.
Everton could do with some reinforcement up front. Louis Saha is a constant injury struggle and Yakubu doesn’t look the player he used to be. Victor Anichebe and Jermaine Beckford are yet to prove themselves in the Premiership, and with Everton having started the season poorly Moyes might be tempted to make a move for the lad.
While Tottenham don’t necessarily need the big six foot four teenager you can never tell what Harry Redknapp might do in the transfer market. All summer long Robbie Keane was expected to leave White Hart Lane, and he may still do. With Jermaine Defoe sidelined for a while, and then needing time to get his sharpness back, ‘Arry might try to bring Mlapa in.
The youngster looks to have real potential and though Hoffenheim would be unlikely to let him go so soon he’s definitely one to watch.
