Inter Milan vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Both sides go into tonight’s game at the San Siro on equal points looking to take a grip at the top of the group.
Inter are defending champions but don’t look quite as strong under Rafa Benitez as they did under Jose Mourinho. That being said, they are still a side with bags of ability.
Tottenham are missing two vital players who would have played a huge part in them getting a result tonight. Jermaine Defoe is out with a long term injury and Rafael van der Vaart is suspended following his dismissal against FC Twente. Ledley King is also out, unsurprisingly.
Inter are missing last year’s hero Diego Milito to a groin problem, but Goran Pandev, Esteban Cambiasso and Ivan Cordoba could all be fit to play. Despite being without Milito, Samuel Eto’o is fully fit and in superb form. He’s scored sixteen goals in fourteen games for club and country so far this season.
With Tottenham having struggled to play a settled back four this season Eto’o could run riot. If Spurs can keep Eto’o and Sneijder quiet then they’ve a chance of getting a result, if not it could be a harsh lesson in Champions League football.
Manchester United vs. Bursaspor
United will be looking to dampen the Wayne Rooney gloom at Old Trafford with a good performance and three points tonight. Though it’s doubtful Rooney would have played anyway, he’s out after being stretchered off at the end of training yesterday. Michael Owen is injured for one of the few games he may have got a run out in and Jonny Evans is also out. Ryan Giggs remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Bursaspor coach Ertugrul Saglam has his own player problem. The Turkish side’s star man Volkan Sen was left out of their weekend squad for going AWOL for a second time this season. The winger travelled to America to visit his girlfriend without permission, though he is expected to start at Old Trafford tonight.
Despite a number of injuries and off field drama United should still gain a comfortable victory tonight against much weaker opposition. But you never know.
