Once again talk in the Football Transfer Tavern has turned to the future of an Aston Villa striker with Mirror Football suggesting that the Villans have placed an huge £40 million price tag on their star forward Christian Benteke.
Villa chiefs are hoping that the massive fee will ward off interested parties from the 22-year-old striker, who netted 19 times for the club to help them survive in the Premier League last season.
Premier League rivals including Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool are chasing the Belgian international who made such a large impression with Villa during his debut season in England after signing from Genk for £8 million last summer.
Elsewhere, La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are also considering making a £25 million bid for Benteke after manager Diego Simeone has identified the striker as a summer target to replace Monaco departed Radamel Falcao.
Villa are desperate not to see Benteke leave and have offered him a new bumper deal to see remain at Villa Park for the long-term but it could be an upward struggle with a whole host of clubs circulating the forward.
Can Villa really hang on to Benteke? Is he worth £40 million? Let us know your thoughts below.
