Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we always like to keep a close eye on the best talent in the Championship and today’s news from the London Evening Standard that Watford star Matej Vydra is ready to leave the Hornets if they club fail to win promotion has put on a whole host of Premier League sides on red alert.
The 21-year-old is currently one of the many players who is on loan at Vicarage Road from Udinese, whose owners, the Pozzo family, run both clubs and his total of 22 goals in the Championship have brought him to the attention of watching Premier League clubs and the Championship Player of the Year is now understood to be wanted by Tottenham, Aston Villa and Fulham.
While he would be happy to remain with Gianfranco Zola’s team if they are victorious against Crystal Palace on the 21st May at Wembley, his future would be far from certain if they were to lose.
His contract with Udinese expires in 2016 and he is unlikely to make the breakthrough into the first team next season with the Italian club looking for over £5 million in transfer fees if he does move on.
The Czech Republic international forward’s sublime volley in the play off semi-final second leg against Leicester City demonstrated his fine ability and he surely has the potential to play in the Premier League next season, either with the Hornets or a new side.
Will Spurs, Villa or Fulham swoop for Vydra in the summer? Rate this rumour below.
