Tottenham boss says Spurs outcast is going nowhere

Erik LamelaThe Football Transfer Tavern was packed today for another busy Saturday as the Premier League returned.

A host of Tottenham fans made their way into the bar earlier before their match against Crystal Palace as Tim Sherwood looks to continue his new side’s fine league form.

Some speculation took their interest as The Express claimed that Sherwood has announced that club record summer signing Erik Lamela will not depart on loan this month despite reports to the contrary.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who was billed as the replacement for Gareth Bale. made a £30 million switch to White Hart Lane in the summer.

Lamela has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and this has seen him repeatedly linked with a loan move away during the transfer window.

However Sherwood has now confirmed that he will not be leaving in January.

“We know what a talented player Erik is and we also understand how players need time to settle,” said Sherwood.

“He’s needing that time to acclimatise to a new country. He doesn’t speak English and with the tempo of the games, especially over the Christmas period when they come thick and fast, he hasn’t been 100 per cent fit.

“He’s still feeling fatigued in one of his thighs so we are being very cautious with him. We don’t want that to turn into a real injury problem so we’re going to take it nice and steady with him.

“I really want to put him on the stage when he’s ready to perform rather than let people judge him when he’s really half-cocked.

“He won’t be leaving on loan in this transfer window.”

These reports have been met with a positive reception by the Spurs supporters, but we still wonder if he’ll ever prove his worth at White Hart Lane.

Do you think Sherwood is right to keep hold of the talented attacker? Let us know your thoughts below.
