Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased with the latest news coming from the Bernabeu and our punters can now look forward to the transfer window.
Following Zinedine Zidane’s departure, Real Madrid were reportedly keen on replacing him with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. Despite penning a new deal with the club which contained no release clause, our punters feared the worst. However, it seems Madrid will now pursue other targets.
Pochettino can now focus on the transfer market and revamp the Spurs squad to challenge Manchester City for the title. Many names are set to depart the club including Mousa Dembele and Toby Alderweireld. If the latter leaves, he will need to be replaced.
The perfect replacement would be Sevilla defender – Clement Lenglet. He arrived in Spain in January 2017 and quickly established himself as a key player for the club. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, his performances have caught the eye of Europe’s elite, most notably Barcelona. With Samuel Umtiti penning a new contract, the Blaugrana could drop their interest.
Lenglet is an imposing defender and makes well-timed challenges. He performed admirably against Manchester United in the Champions League where he helped help Romelu Lukaku quiet as the Spanish side progressed to the next round. At just 22-years-old, his best years are ahead of him.
