Tottenham celebrations take a hit as player confirms frustrating news for Pochettino

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few hours celebrating their side’s huge win over Real Madrid last night. It was expected to be a close clash, but the Lilywhites were able to comfortably dispatch of the Spanish outfit, with a Dele Alli brace helping them to a 3-1 win. However, a revelation made by one of Tottenham’s most important players after the game will leave fans disappointed.

According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Toby Alderweireld confirmed his injury status at the end of the game, stating: “I will be out for a few weeks”. Though it seems likely that that assessment is just an early estimation, it’s certainly a massive blow for the club regardless of the length of his seemingly inevitable absence.

Alderweireld has, of course, been a vital part of Tottenham’s first team this season, delivering consistent performances as a part of one of Europe’s best defences. Either in a back four or a back five, the Belgian continues to impress, and so his temporary departure – regardless of how long it is – is certainly very frustrating indeed.

It’s not going to be easy for them to plan around this, even though Pochettino does have options, so they’ll be hoping that it’s only a short-term absence. The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty concerned at the moment.

Landlord’s Verdict

Alderweireld is so important to this team, and so this is a blow for the club.

Fortunately, with the international break around the corner, that should give Alderweireld a decent amount of time to recover, and they’ll no doubt be hoping that he returns soon thereafter. The game against Arsenal on the 18th of November will be a decent clash to aim for.
