With the end of the season in sight, clubs are already making plans to address their recruitment drive over the summer and consequently the Football Transfer Tavern is hotting up. News today that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to challenge Liverpool for long-term target Thomas Ince has left punters in shock.
Alan Nixon from the Daily Mirror reports that Daniel Levy and Spurs are prepared to fork out £6.5 million to land the Blackpool starlet as they look toward next season.
Ince, who was chosen in the Championship PFA Team of the Year on Sunday, has long been on the radar of Reds supremo Brendan Rodgers for the last year and reportedly Liverpool made several offers in January that were all rejected by the Tangerines as they looked to survive in the Championship instead.
However now Andre Villas-Boas is hopeful of finding a price that Blackpool cannot refuse to ensure that the talented 21-year-old arrives at White Hart Lane during the summer as they look to add depth to their wing play with Aaron Lennon having little competition for a first team place at present.
Young 18-goal Ince could face an interesting conflict of interest if Spurs do step up their interest with his old man Paul in charge at Bloomfield Road although we’re sure that he wants what is best for his son.
