Spurs fans sat in the Football Transfer Tavern today are holding out hope that the club will finally sign Valencia striker Roberto Soldado with recent reports suggesting that the transfer is cut and dry.
However with no news on that front they are interested to hear reports from talkSPORT that Tottenham are looking at signing Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas still wants to add to his current squad ahead of the new campaign and after seeing veteran defender William Gallas at the end of the season there is space in his side for another central defender.
The 23-year-old is highly thought of in his native country and the Romanian international, who has collected 18 caps since making his debut in 2011, is also being watched by Italian sides Roma and AC Milan.
But Spurs may make the first move for the former Benfica youngster who is regarded as a stylish ball-playing defender who impressed during Steaua’s Europa League run until they were eventually defeated by Chelsea. The Romanian side will not want to lose their star centre-back, but he could be available for around £6million this summer if Spurs are to up their interest.
Villas-Boas has already added Belgian winger Nacer Chadli and Brazilian midfielder Paulinho to his squad during the current transfer window, but a possible addition in defence would bring much-need depth to the Spurs squad who missed out on Champions League qualification last season by one point to rivals Arsenal.
