There is brilliant news here in the Football Transfer Tavern for Tottenham fans as it is claimed by IBTimes that the club are finally set to sign long-term target Leandro Damiao.
The club and indeed manager Andre Villas-Boas have long been after the forward and AVB even approached the forward about a move long before he took over at the North London club who likewise made advances for the player when under the management of Harry Redknapp.
Now it seems they are set to be offered the player and would be willing to snap the hands off his current club Internacional. The forward has also sparked interest from French side Marseille who noted to L’Equipe that: “Leandro Damiao? We know him very well, but there are financial aspects we cannot ignore. We are following him but it is too expensive so far. On a financial level we will be more at ease than last season, but we didn’t win the lottery. Our priority is to try to sign French players.”
Rafael Benitez’ rumoured new club Napoli are also thought to be considering a swoop for the player but given Internacional’s preference to deal with Spurs and their desire to land the player, AVB’s men seem to be the front runners here.
