There are some shocked looks on the faces of the few Liverpool supporters in the bar as news emerges about fierce competition for one of their prime summer transfer targets.
The Daily Star claims that Tottenham are closer to signing Yevhen Konoplyanka with the White Hart Lane club reportedly in negotiations with Dnipro over the Ukrainian international winger’s services.
One of our punters recalls that the Reds came so close to landing Dnipro’s main man in January with Liverpool chief Ian Ayre flying out to Ukraine to try and seal the transfer on deadline day.
However an agreement could not be completed in time and instead Konoplyanka stayed at his current club although he is expected to depart in the summer.
Now Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi has confirmed that he has began talks with Tottenham regarding a transfer for the 24-year-old.
“I have contact with the Tottenham president. I am talking with him,” Kolomoysky told Ukrainian TV channel ‘2+2’ .
“He is interested in Konoplyanka. We are in the stage of negotiations and are perhaps close to signing a contract if Yehven agrees.
“I would choose Tottenham – London – not Liverpool.
“There are matches only once or twice a week, and at other times he will still need somewhere to live.
“I believe London life is preferable to Liverpool.”
Is Konoplyanka truly world class or does he fall into the category of players that were signed for £100 odd million last summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
