Tottenham confirm £25.8m Bale replacement

Tottenham have faced transfer competition from Manchester & LiverpoolBBC Sport confirms that Totteham look set to complete the signing of Roma forward Erik Lamela after the Serie A club accepted a bid of £25.8 million for the 21-year-old.

The 21-year-old has hit an impressive 19 league goals in two seasons with Roma and, on completing his transfer to White Hart Lane, he will go some way to filling the gap potentially left by Gareth Bale who is likely to join Real Madrid before the deadline.

A statement on Roma’s official website read: “Roma announce they have signed a contract with Tottenham for the outright sale of the playing rights of Erik Lamela, in exchange for €30m.

“The agreement also includes the obligation to pay €5m in bonuses related to the achievements of the player and the English club.”

The Argentine international arrived at the Stadio Olimpico from River Plate in August 2011 and made 29 appearances, scoring four goals, in his first year in the Italian capital.

With the Bale transfer saga continuing to roll on, and following the failure to sign Willian, the young forward represents an elegant acquisition for Villas-Boas’ side.

The summer spending spree from Spurs gives a clear indication to all in the tavern that Bale’s expected £86 million move is ready as Lamela joins Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue at White Hart Lane.

Roma have already found a replacement for Lamela in the form of Serbian forward Adem Ljajic, an €11 million signing from Fiorentina and Lamela’s signing is likely to be announced today.
