The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Kyle Walker will remain with the club for a long time…
However, it is quickly becoming apparent that the Englishman could depart the club this summer – with Sky Sports reporting that Man City are set to hold talks with Tottenham over a move for the defender this week, with the Citizens seemingly keen to tie up a deal for the England international.
Walker’s future, of course, has come under scrutiny in recent months – with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino opting to drop the defender towards the end of the 2016/17 campaign. It came as a surprise, as he had impressed for much of the season, but Kieran Trippier came in and impressed in place of the Englishman.
Clearly, Walker is a player that deserves to be starting in the Premier League. The last 18 months or so have seen him develop as a player and finally reach his potential, impressing both defensively and offensively for the Lilywhites. Pochettino, though, seems to think that he isn’t quite good enough, which is certainly a shame.
That being said, you can certainly see where he would fit into Man City’s first team. The Citizens are embarking on a complete rebuild of their defence, with the likes of Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta out of contract this summer, and Walker would likely come in and be able to really make an impact. His attacking play style would align perfectly with Guardiola.
