The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were happy with the money that their side earned from the sale of Kyle Walker, but the thoughts in the pub immediately turned to how Pochettino would look to replace the defender…
Of course, despite losing his place towards the end of last season, Walker had been a regular in the Tottenham matchday squad, and given that he was one of just two right-backs in the team – his loss is certainly a big one.
However, it looks as though Tottenham are keen to move quickly to replace him – with Bild reporting that the Lilywhites have already identified a potential replacement. According to Bild, Tottenham are interested in Hoffenheim defender Jeremy Toljan – with Pochettino seemingly viewing him as a replacement for Walker. Crucially, he is said to have a market value of just €3.5 million (£3.1 million) – given that his contract expires next summer.
Of course, Tottenham are working in a market where prices often exceed their standard price, but even so – this deal would undoubtedly allow Spurs to keep hold of the vast majority of the money that they made from the sale of Walker. Whether Toljan is a better player, though, is a different topic entirely.
He made 14 league starts last season, and whilst typically he features further forward than the defence, he could certainly adjust to that role. He is also adept on the left-hand side, meaning that he would also offer a versatile option for Pochettino.
Given his price, this move would represent a low-risk option for Tottenham, and with Hoffenheim said to be open to a sale, perhaps this could work for all parties.
