Tottenham could reportedly face big competition in pursuit of 23-year-old midfielder

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving recent reports linking their side with a move for Ross Barkley…

The Englishman had a tough season last year, but there is no better manager in the Premier League at bringing the best out of young players than Mauricio Pochettino.

However, whilst Tottenham are said to be keen on a move, their path to the Englishman will not be an easy one according to the Times. The publication is reporting that both Man Utd and Chelsea could make a move for Barkley this summer, with both clubs said to be monitoring his situation alongside Spurs.

It’s a move that would certainly generate a lot of excitement amongst supporters in the Transfer Tavern, given that whilst Barkley has struggled lately, he clearly has the talent to make it at the highest level.

Indeed, both Man Utd and Chelsea could certainly fit him into their squads – with each side lacking midfield depth. For Chelsea, in particular, his homegrown status could be a big plus point, with the recent departure of John Terry leaving Chelsea desperately short in that regard.

Still, Tottenham seem to retain the most interest, and it appears to be up to Chelsea and Man Utd to decide whether they want to make their move. One thing is for sure; Barkley won’t come cheap, and so the decision on whether to move for him will be a tough one.
