Gerard Deulofeu is the latest Barcelona star to be discussed down here at the Transfer Tavern. The Independent are reporting that there are various ‘whispers’ in Spain that Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both keen on taking the winger on loan, next season.
Deulofeu is rated highly by the La Liga champions but, with the arrival of Neymar, the one-time Liverpool and Arsenal target has been pushed down the pecking order at the Camp Nou and is prepared to go out on loan to gain first team experience.
Tottenham’s failure to qualify for the Champions League was due to a lack of goals (well, that’s what a few of the punters down here are saying) so, with Deulofeu scoring 18 goals in 33 games for Barcelona’s ‘B’ team in the Segunda Division, last season, he may well just be what the North London club need.
However, the Barcelona youngster is currently away on international duty with Spain, at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey (scoring twice in the 4-1 win over the USA) and it may well be the prospect of working under fellow Spaniard Roberto Martinez that sees the 19-year-old opt for the Toffees.
Just in case the hot prospect doesn’t sound exciting enough, one of the regulars here has just told me that, Deulofeu also made an impressive debut for the Barcelona first team in the 5-0 win over Real Mallorca, last season.
