Tottenham supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are excited with reports from the Daily Star that they are trying to sign Aston Villa frontman Christian Benteke this summer.
The Belgian international, 22, netted an impressive 19 times in his debut Premier League season with the Aston Villa side and that has attracted suitors from across Europe for the former Genk striker.
Benteke is understood to want Champions League football next season which has alerted North London rivals Arsenal but Spurs are still confident of emerging successful in their pursuit of the powerful forward.
Andre Villas-Boas is looking to bring additional firepower to his side after they missed out on qualification for the Champions League mainly because of the lack of goals from Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
A respected source told the paper: “Benteke is one of the players they want.”
But they confirmed that Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor wouldn’t be part of the deal, adding: “Sadly, no one has come in for Adebayor so at the moment so it must be straight cash.”
