Tottenham supporters have been somewhat downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their team only manage a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham in the Premier League on Thursday night, thus failing to move to within a point of fourth place Liverpool.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their second game of 2018 off the back of consecutive victories over Burnley, Southampton, and Swansea City, but were unable to make it four in a row for what would have been the second time this season at Wembley on Thursday. Pedro Obiang fired the Hammers into the lead 20 minutes from time with a spectacular effort, and it took one equally as good from Son Heung-min 14 minutes later to preserve a point for the North London outfit, whose fifth draw of the campaign moved them to within three points of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
Subsequently, there have been some disappointed Spurs fans in the Tavern in recent times, and their mood is unlikely to improve if a recent report from The Daily Mirror is anything to go by, which suggests that their team will face a fight from Paris Saint-Germain to land Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
The 17-year-old has burst onto the scene in the last 18 months or so with several impressive displays for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side, the most notable of which coming in their thrilling 5-4 success at Sheffield United earlier this season in which the left-back bagged a sensational hat-trick.
And with seven goals and four assists overall for the Cottagers this term, the England youth international continues to go from strength to strength, as such reportedly retaining the interest of Pochettino’s Spurs after they kept tabs on the defender over the summer.
However, the North London outfit look set to face a heavyweight fight for the exciting youngster as reports suggest that PSG, currently nine points clear at the top of Ligue 1, have joined the race for the left-back.
Thus, Pochettino’s side may find it tough convincing Sessegnon of a move to London over a move to the French capital.
Landlord’s verdict: Ryan Sessegnon’s meteoric rise in the last 18 months or so has taken the football world by storm, with several top clubs keeping tabs on the 17-year-old ahead of a future move.
And reports suggest that French giants Paris Saint-Germain have also joined the pursuit of the exciting left-back, a race that consists of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham and has done for a while now.
With Danny Rose’s future far from certain, a move for Sessegnon may well be high up on Pochettino’s agenda this month, but PSG’s reported interest is likely to make things extremely difficult for the Argentine in pursuit of a potentially exciting January deal.
