Tottenham fail in £18m bid for attacker

This transfer saga has raised a few eyebrows from the Tottenham faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern; but it doesn’t look like The Lilywhites are going to give up on this deal just yet…

In one of the most surprising rumours of the summer, it was revealed last week that Tottenham were keen on signing Wilfred Zaha on a permanent deal,  with a reported £12 million bid on the table for the young English winger.

Whilst the offer was rejected on that occasion, Mauricio Pochettino has not been put off the deal – with HITC today suggesting that the transfer is far from dead.

In fact, HITC are reporting, as per a source close to the club, that Tottenham have now put in an improved £18 million bid in a desperate attempt to bring Zaha to White Hart Lane.

However, crucially – HITC add that Tottenham are not even considering the offer; with any prospective deal still a long way from happening – much to the dismay of the Tottenham faithful here in the Tavern.

The new bid is unlikely to please Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, who only last week blasted his London rivals for their attempted signing of the English winger.

“We had a bid from Spurs but £12million – it’s a ridiculous bid” scolded Parish.

“There is no chance whatsoever of Wilfried Zaha leaving the club in this transfer window.”

Unwilling to budge from his stance; news of any additional bid will likely have infuriated Parish even more.

HITC have also suggested that the minimum price that Palace will consider will be closer to the £30m mark – making the reported £18m offer a far cry away from how the Palace chairman values the winger.

The punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern can hardly believe this saga.

One particularly vocal fan standing by the bar proudly proclaimed that if Zaha was worth £30m then he was worth a tidy £10m – beer gut and all!

In fact, our landlord has said that if he was Steve Parish – he would have taken that £18m and ran!

Now, despite many of the punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern thinking that the deal is a bad idea – Zaha is definitely not a bad player. In fact – quite the opposite; as this short compilation will show you…

Zaha is quite unique in the Premier League in that he isn’t like every other attacking midfielder. His raw power and strength differentiates him; and he would definitely give Tottenham an outlet that they currently do not possess.

Whether he is worth £12m, £18m or even £30m is a different question entirely however.

Tottenham fans – we want to hear from you! Do you disagree with everyone here in the Tavern; do you want Zaha at Spurs? Crystal Palace fans – would you have taken the £18m?
