Tottenham failed with late £25M bid for Tammy Abraham

Tottenham Hotspur appear to have a bid rejected at the last hour for one of their Premier League rival’s strikers.

According to a report by Goal, Spurs had failed to land Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham after they saw their £25million offer turned down.

However, to make the news that bit more frustrating for the White Hart Lane outfit, it is believed the 20-year-old was keen on the move to north London.

It is understood that Chelsea did not want to sell the young striker to a direct rival, despite him appearing to be behind Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

It would have been unlikely that Abraham would have been first-choice at Tottenham, with Harry Kane leading the line, however, he may have had more opportunity to play a little more regularly than with the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to land any new recruits this summer, although he did crucially manage to keep all of his players.

The Verdict:

Tottenham could rue failing to land Abraham from Chelsea this summer, although it does not appear that they stood a chance of signing him.

With Chelsea keen to not let him go to a direct rival, it would be difficult to see Spurs managing to negotiate a deal for him with the whole transfer window open, rather than at the last minute.

The England Under-21 international is clearly talented and it remains to be seen if Pochettino will try and go for the attacker again in the future.
