Tottenham fans desperate for Alderweireld to sign a new deal after Watford win

Toby Alderweireld was one of those Mauricio Pochettino opted against resting on Wednesday when The Lilywhites beat Watford on penalties. After the game, The Belgian posted a picture on Twitter of him with some of his teammates with the caption ‘Next round!! #COYS #CarabaoCup’ and the fans have been replying with pleas for him to sign a new deal at the club.

Many supporters expected Toby Alderweireld to be on his way out of Tottenham over the summer. The club came to an impasse with the defender’s contract talks and when Manchester United were looming with a supposed bid of more than £50 million, the Spurs fans thought it was all over. However, he’s stayed out and looks set to be one of Pochettino’s key men this season as the Lilywhites compete in four competitions.

The future of Alderweireld is still up for debate. The defender’s contract expires next summer but Pochettino and Daniel Levy have the option to extend that by one more year. However, if they choose to activate his one-year extension it will also activate a £25 million release clause that would see a number of interested clubs come swooping in for him at the discount price. The fans would do anything to keep him and hate the idea of losing him on the cheap, making a contract for the Belgian a priority among the supporters.

The fans want nothing more than Alderweireld on a new deal and with a bit of luck the defender can come to an agreement with Pochettino over a new one sooner or later.
