Tottenham fans on Twitter call for Gazzaniga to be their #1 after another stunner

Last night saw Tottenham give themselves a great chance to advance to a cup final for the first time since 2015 when they beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg at Wembley. There’s still work to do, but if Paulo Gazzaniga can perform at Stamford Bridge like he did last night at Wembley then they should be absolutely fine.

This season has seen the Argentine shot-stopper transformed. When he signed for the Lilywhites back in summer 2017 the ex-Southampton man was expected to be a sparingly used 3rd choice, lucky to get a couple of games each season. However, in just his second season at the club he’s usurped Michel Vorm as the club’s second choice shot-stopper and is now gunning for Hugo Lloris’ place in the squad.
The scoreline last night was a narrow 1-0 in favour of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, yet Gazzaniga had a huge part to play in that. The 27-year-old made some cracking stops during the win and had Vorm been the man in the net then the scoreline could have been very different. Chelsea lacked a clinical touch in front of goal, but the Lilywhites’ Argentine in the net still had plenty to do, with the pick of the saves seeing him turn a cross-shot from Callum Hudson-Odoi onto the crossbar.

The Lilywhites absolutely love seeing Gazzaniga starting for them, and will hope the Argentine can shine if he’s picked to start at Stamford Bridge in two weeks time.
