Last night, Tottenham beat Watford 4-2 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in 90 minutes at Stadium MK. When it comes to a shootout it so often happens that the goalkeeper is the hero and that’s exactly what happened as Paulo Gazzaniga stepped up to save two penalties as his side won the tie.

Gazzaniga’s penalty heroics have ensure Tottenham will be in the draw for the Carabao Cup fourth round on Saturday night and the Lilywhites will be confident of beating anyone as long as they’ve got their super Argentine stopper between the sticks. The 26-year-old goalkeeper was only afforded his chance as both Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris are out injured but Spurs’ third-choice ‘keeper has been stellar in his two games so far this campaign.
When Hugo Lloris returns he will be the one who is thrown into the net for the Premier League matches but at the moment it’s hard to picture Lloris playing as well as Gazzaniga is. Pochettino will be delighted with his form and the rest of the players have him to thank for his heroics when it went to spot-kicks yesterday. His saves against Ettiene Capoue and Domingos Quina gave Spurs the win and it’s a night that the Lilywhites won’t forget quickly.
