Tottenham fans on Twitter can’t wait to have Vertonghen back

Tottenham were back in Premier League action yesterday and after suffering defeat at the hands of Lionel Messi and co in the week, Mauricio Pochettino’s side needed a win ahead of the international break. An Eric Dier goal sealed a 1-0 win over Cardiff and after the game, the injured Jan Vertonghen took to Twitter to congratulate the side the big three points.

In a fully fit Tottenham side, Pochettino usually opts for Vertonghen starting alongside Toby Alderweireld in a back four and to have one of your starting centre-backs missing is never ideal. However, The Lilywhites are lucky enough to have Davinson Sanchez to step in and perform the way he does and will be able to cope without Vertonghen in the short term as their current partnership of Alderweireld and Sanchez have stepped up.

Whilst the international break is now upon us it will give Vertonghen some time to recover without having to worry about how his team are getting on. The Belgian defender will be missed by his country though. Vertonghen has won more caps for his nation than anyone and Roberto Martinez will be hoping he’ll have Vertonghen back as soon as possible just as Pochettino will.

You can read The Lilywhites’ verdict on Vertonghen here:

Vertonghen will be missed sorely by Tottenham and the sooner he’s back then better as far as the Lilywhites are concerned.
