Tottenham fans on Twitter delighted that Van Gaal snubbed them in 2014

Tottenham fans have been loving life under Mauricio Pochettino pretty much since the day he took the job in North London. However, things could have been so different as the Lilywhites almost appointed Louis Van Gaal, only for the Dutchman to snub the club for Manchester United, as has been revealed in this BBC interview with the man himself.
Louis Van Gaal believes he should have managed Tottenham Hotspur instead of Man Utd:
“Tottenham were a better selection because Manchester United were an old team and I knew I would have to transform them.”
“Was it the wrong choice? Maybe, but I followed my heart.”#THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/fRARWAwMzp

Whilst speaking in the first interview with an English journalist since he was sacked back in 2016, Van Gaal lifted the lid on all things Manchester United from his time at the club, as well as talking about life in retirement and claiming that Tottenham were the better option for him when he agreed to be the new Old Trafford gaffer. How lucky the Spurs fans are, though, that he didn’t come to the club.
Van Gaal may be an incredible manager in every respect, with his trophy cabinet certainly speaking for itself. However, his football quickly became torrid and Old Trafford, and whilst he now enjoys retirement almost three years on from being axed in Manchester, the Lilywhites are loving life in their 5th season under the ever-impressive Mauricio Pochettino, and it looks like there will be more years to come.

His style of play wouldn’t of fitted unfortunately, yeah he won the FA cup but still, it wasn’t good football to watch

I recall feeling gutted he chose Man U over Spurs. Now, I want to shake his hand and say, "Thanks for following your heart so Poch could come here instead." #COYS

We never regretted him rejecting us. We got The Magic instead

I remember thinking it was inevitable for him to coach spurs that season, it felt so right but fate brought us Poch and I’m forever thankful

Often following your heart isn’t best over a logical decision.
Ohh well, glad he didn’t.— James of Suffolk (@OldManHotspur) March 27, 2019
The Lilywhites may have been gutted at the time when Van Gaal snubbed them, but looking back now they couldn’t be happier.
