Tottenham fans on Twitter have been going after Winks following Wembley woes

Harry Winks started his first game for Tottenham Hotspur since last December when he took to the pitch on Saturday against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The young English midfielder had been battling off a chronic ankle injury and would have hoped to make a winning return. It wasn’t to be and he was hooked after 73 minutes, with Spurs fans coming down on him afterwards.

To be completely fair to Winks, he put in a much better performance than the other two central midfielders he started alongside. Then again, that’s not saying much as the trio of Winks, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele failed to really get a grip on the game and were quickly put to the sword by the quality in Liverpool’s midfield. The fans had a real cheer when Heung-Min Son was seen ready to come on and no one was too fussed to see Winks hooked.

The next game for Tottenham is at The San Siro tomorrow night and given how Winks thrived away at the Santiago Bernabeu last season it would be no surprise to see him thrown in to start against the Milan side. It will be key for Mauricio Pochettin o to get his side back playing to their capabilities and Winks will have to step up his game if he wants to keep his place in the side for next weekend’s clash with Brighton.

The fans were pretty clear in their assessment of Winks and will be hoping he can up his game soon.
